About Westlake Chess Association ( WCA )

Westlake Chess Association is a non-profit organization. It was founded in the Summer of 2010 by Julia Hall and sponsored by many chess families and communities. The goal is to create a place for kids and adults to practice their chess skills and to meet other chess players.

The size of this chess community has grown rapidly from 26 to 280+ within 15 months. We have 7-13 adult volunteers and 4 teenage volunteers to support the growth of the chess community.

We regularly invite local Chess Professionals to give lessons, simuls, and chess camps. We have weekly tournaments and many fun activities to support interests of players.

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to support, teach, and guide young chess players to fulfill their chess potential and provide them a safe learning environment.

Our Vision is to provide an environment in which young chess players can explore their passions, push their limits, celebrate their chess talents and develop strong chess interest in their lives.

Our Strategy is to bring young chess players together with a group of chess professionals who are passionate about teaching chess.
